EMPLOYMENT
Hiring
UT Southwestern maintains recruitment and selection procedures that reflect a commitment to equal opportunity. These procedures are intended to ensure the recruitment and retention of highly skilled and productive workers.
All vacant positions must be posted and listed with the Texas Workforce Commission and other appropriate state agencies. Classified positions will be posted for at least five consecutive working days, and administrative and professional positions will be posted for at least 10 consecutive working days.
Promotions
A competitive promotion involves the placement of an individual into a
higher level job that has been posted and for which a competitive selection
process was used.
A reclassification promotion action involves the review of an employee's
specific job duties and results in the employee receiving a higher level job
without
a competitive process.
Bidding on Vacant Positions
As a regular employee whose current employment has been for a minimum of six months, you may indicate your desire to change positions by submitting a bid sheet to the office of Human Resources. If your current employment is less than six months, you must obtain the written approval of your supervisor before submitting a job bid. To initiate the job bidding process, submit a completed Bid Sheet to the Office of Human Resources.
Security-Sensitive Positions
State law requires the designation of certain types of positions and work areas as security sensitive and the designation be included on the job postings and advertisements for such positions. A criminal history background check will be made of applicants for positions designated as security sensitive, and employment may be denied based on the background information obtained.
